A man’s flight from house arrest only lasted a few hours after he was found hiding under the steps of a residence a short distance from where he was supposed to be.
Jason Lanktree’s sureties no longer wanted the responsibility earlier this month, Ontario Court Justice John Condon heard Friday. He fled the Wallace Terrace home where he was supposed to stay unless his sureties were with him. A police canine unit found him on nearby Sixth Avenue, said assistant Crown attorney Blair Hagan. Lanktree cut off a GPS ankle bracelet that was meant to track his movements. He pleaded guilty to failing to comply with his release order and mischief.
Lanktree was sentenced to 60 days in jail. He must give a DNA sample. Lanktree remains in custody on other charges. He returns to court April 2.
